The Artist Lovers

I don’t think anyone else really likes this one, but it’s a favorite of mine. Just a daydream, I suppose.

In through glowing windows
They will see a pair of shadows moving
Graceful as only we can be
When trapped in one another’s gaze

The true ideal, the artist lovers
Basking in our joint creations
Every traded glance and word exchanged
A possibility

And when we sleep, our ghosts will speak
In rhyme and song and painted canvas
With ink upon our fingertips
And light erupting from our eyes

Recalling moments so remote
We thought the memories surely gone
But we stowed them well in notes and verse
And wine-stained pages in a book

We are really one, they’ll think
Our bodies indiscernible
Our universes, once distinct
But now united, now converged

And we’ll smile in ways we never knew we could
We’ll smile into the twilight of our years
