Shame
As I mentioned yesterday, last month I entered my first photo contest. Today was the opening of the show, and alas, I wasn’t one of the winners. That said, there were plenty of great entries, and I’m quite proud of my photo, so I wanted to post it here. It’s called “Shame”:
I don’t want to talk about the photo in great detail, but I do want to mention a few things. When I entered 50 Photographers, 50 Images, I had little expectation that I would win. I haven’t been taking photos for too long, and there are a lot of gifted photographers that entered the contest. I did have two goals though: I wanted to have fun, and I wanted to take an interesting picture. I think I succeeded in both cases.
When I conceived of the photo, I knew it ran the risk of being treated as a purely comical scene—it does include a blowup doll after all. That said, my interpretation isn’t funny at all. There’s a lot of room to explore, so when you look at it, take a little time to consider the many possibilities that the image is depicting and how the title might relate to those interpretations. Feel free to contact me either directly or via Flickr comments to let me know your interpretation of the photo.
In any case, there it is. Like I said, I’m quite proud of it, so I hope you all like it too.
