Contact

Three years ago, I started developing a story for a concept album. Without going into too much detail, the story concerned issues of loneliness, self-pity, hope, and renewal. Although I did manage to flesh out the story—one that my life would eventually imitate— making the record got lost in the shuffle while I was working on my Masters thesis, and I never really had the urge to pick it up again.

Thankfully, I did write one song for the project, “Contact,” which is probably the best song I’ve ever written. The vocal melody and guitar parts are among the most interesting and musical work I’ve done. In particular, I’m quite proud of the middle section, which has three completely different guitar parts that harmonize in a great way.

I recorded a demo of “Contact’ in May 2007 with guitars, vocals, and drum machine. Give it a listen.

In this street I lay
A stranger to all that pass
The spark of touch
A brush from some passerby
It’s all I have left

I’m sorry
You don’t know me
But can you tell me how to get back to where I’ve been?

Far from here
You’re just a vague recollection
Of a feeling I don’t want to forget

Far from here
You’re just a vague recollection
Of a feeling I don’t want to forget

I am unknown

I’m sorry
You don’t know me
But can you tell me how to get back to where I’ve been?
Please
